If you follow any agricultural news (how can you not?), then you might know about the catastrophe and ass-wipe (?? I have no idea what this actually means) that is MONSANTO.

If you're an Australian we'll settle for the word grub and call it a day.
So, on Saturday, there was a global March Against Monsanto. It was pretty hardcore (see above)

I've been for the past two years and each time it is informative and pretty cool to see the turn out of conscious people wanting to take control of their food supply and health.

If Monsanto was a person, you'd probably have stopped being friends when they started poisoning you slowly and trying to take control of your food supply. But apparently some people like sticking in passive aggressive relationships full of emotional blackmail and FBI raids. Girl stuff.

Apparently not everything developed in the 90's was great - whilst I was learning how to talk/walk, Monsanto took it upon themselves to develop genetically modified crops that were resilient to their weed killer Round-Up, thus these crops could be endlessly sprayed and only the weeds would die. The major varieties—soy, corn, canola, cotton, and sugar beets—have bacterial genes inserted, which allow the plants to survive an otherwise deadly dose of weed killer.

The end point was cash money.

Taking C.R.E.A.M to the next level.

Basically if you go way back, Monsanto's first foray into being an asshole - was creating Agent Orange.

But like any corporation with only money in mind (not the wellbeing of the planet and us) genetically modified crops weren't enough. Seeds were the next target - the second GM trait is a built-in pesticide, found in GM corn and cotton. A gene from the soil bacterium called Bt (for Bacillus thuringiensis) is inserted into the plant's DNA, where it secretes the insect-killing Bt-toxin in every cell.

Additionally, the fight for GMO labelling has proven difficult globally with many FDA and White House officials in bed with Monsanto, or having worked for them previously.

This is why bees are dying. This is why soy allergies skyrocketed. This is potentially why gluten intolerance skyrocketed.

I'm not going to go into the whole thing, but second generation rats fed GM food were infertile. Do with that what you will.

So in saying all this, which is literally just a the tip of the iceberg its so important to make everyday a protest, I've got my organic, heirloom vege garden, as well as making the choice to not purchase anything with high fructose corn syrup, citric acid, GM soy, canola et al.

Also, do your own research and come to your own conclusions!

If you're interested I've attached some really interesting web pages about Monsanto and the dangers of genetically modified crops and more of the crap thats going on in our food supply.
